Becoming Coherent | Business of Tomorrow | Peer-to-Peer Mentoring

Short-Term Small Business Planning • Business of Tomorrow

I have a weird fascination with sport analogies, it’s weird because I’m not a massive sports fan (other than football) but, ask any successful business person what keeps them moving forward it’s an ever-evolving level of clarity about three things:

THEIR ENDGAME – what keeps them in the ‘game’ and what they’re trying to achieve

THEIR GAME PLAN – how they ‘move the ball down the field’

THEIR PLAYBOOK – the individual plays they run, day in and day out, that bring them one step closer to the endzone.

If you are not creating more inside your business

something needs to change…and very likely,

you already KNOW what those changes and

they become coherent with a different perspective

CHANGE YOUR ENDGAME •

In the movie MONEYBALL, Billy Bean didn’t set out to change THE game of baseball; he looked for his own “Moneyball Mashup” in order to change the way he and the Oakland As played and in the process created AND experienced more.

• What keeps you in the game? In other words, why are you doing what you’re doing today and is that what you want to be doing tomorrow?

• Is all that you’re doing actually creating more, and if not, what specifically needs to change – the game, the position you’re playing or who you’re on the field with?

Through a short-term engagement you and I work specifically to REFRAME the playing field, the players and the way the game is conventionally played; we consider the external and internal forces that either create opportunities or threats; and, REDEFINE how YOU want to play, inside your business AND beyond it.

CHANGE YOUR GAME PLAN ••

In The Replacements, Keanu Reeves’ character refers to quicksand as the FEELING of one mistake adding to another and another, until you just can move.

So you’re endgame is good, but you know you’re missing clarity around your game plan…seeing more of the options available and how to connect those with the outcomes you want, which brings up two questions:

1 – What are the opportunities that create more AND which ones will enable your customer to experience more?

2 – Where does it feel like you’re getting caught in quicksand?

It doesn’t have to be ‘mistakes’…in fact, more often than not, it’s the overwhelming number of things we HEAR we should be doing and a lack of clarity around our game plan.

CHANGE YOUR PLAYBOOK •••

In Remember the Titans, Coach Boone was judged harshly (at first) for running a VERY simple playbook, to which he said, ‘it’s like novocaine, they might not be flashy, but they work’.

How often are you hearing about something NEW…something MORE…that you need to learn, do or offer and you’re trying to go the flow, only to find yourself in a riptide?

What are you doing, day-in and day-out and is that routine consistently moving the ball down the field, or pulling you out of bounds (out of alignment with your game plan and your endgame)?

How do make key decisions that create more?

You don’t need a thousand plays.

You need the plays that create more inside the business, for the customer AND for you – the owner.

And, VERY often less is more, I support you in finding flow, substance and leave the flash for others to explore. We focus on the ‘plays’ that consistently build the relationship with your customers…because,

creating more starts with creating the EXPERIENCE of more…it’s like novocaine.
